About the Book
The Western Australian Government Railways operated a vast railway
network from hot and dry mining areas to Perth’s suburbs to
the wheat and timber country of the Southwest.
A large array of passenger cars were used on this network and the
history of the railways reflects the social history of Western Australia
over the years, from the colony’s humble beginnings, through
the gold rushes of the 1890’s, two World Wars, the Great Depression,
and the changes wrought by Australia’s love affair with the
motor car.
“A History of WAGR Passenger Carriages” traces this
story through the various classes of railway passenger carriages
employed by the West Australian Railways, with more than 450 pages
and over 800 photographs and diagrams, many in colour.
It is an essential reference for the railway buff, railway modeller,
general historian, or anybody else who simply likes to read about
trains. |
